Do barbell shrugs work the lats as well?
@ExistentialDuality not in a significant way. lats and other back muscles can get stimulated if you lift heavy weights but it primarily targets the Traps in a major way.
wen i do this, i get cramp in my hands.

@yb600whp it might happen indeed. you can try to add straps. it will relieve a great deal of stress on you hands and also make sure to train your forearms as well. when your forearms will start to catch up with the rest of your body , your grip will be much improved
